WW2 #10

The train was moving very slowly with many people crowding around each other, crying, screaming and using language that would get us in troubles big time if we ever used it, it was frightening. Some where very angry pushing  their way through the isles. The train stopped as we heard the fighter planes approaching. To make it so far to get blown up was a scary thought. Many  jumped off the train to find a place to hide in a ditch or in shrubs. Looking back, the city was a big fireball.

It took a while to get away from the hot burning city. Miles and miles of destruction.  But happily we reached our Grandparents home. Thank God all was ok there.

We stayed a couple days with my grandparents while my mother made her way back to Dresden hoping to find our Nanny, Aunt, and Uncle. The report on her return was sad, no one made it to safety. The burned bodies were piled high in the streets, everywhere you looked there were dead bodies. That pictures and that smell took my Mom a long time to get over it.

Our Apartment building, nothing was left just a pile of smoldering rubbage.

We didn’t stay much  longer at my Grandparents after my mom returned.

My mom know that my Dad was wounded in battle and in a hospital in Wuerzburg. That was the  direction we went.
