Indeed it was a long recovery for my sister. Many days and nights we heard her cry with pain. Medicine was scarce, and needed.   Her toe ripped off at a very critical point and if it didn’t heal right the doctor would had  to cut off more of her foot.  My Mom didn’t except this, she know all will be alright.  Yes,  it took a while but everything healed nicely.

We had no toys, our playground where the fields and the forest. Of course we had to help in the Garden which was located outside the village about 2 miles away from home. I worked in the fields helping the farmers turning Hay. Sure it was hard work but it was worth it. A wonderful Lunch and some extra food to take home.

July was the blueberries season and the woods where loaded with wild low growing blueberry bushes.  That was fun, after we filled our containers with the delicious berries we where able to sell the rest of the berries for a couple cents. That was a lot of money for us.

The village was surrounded by fields and mountains and bad Weather lingered on for hours in the valley.   The thunderstorms where scary at night. My mom got dressed and woke us up. Up to this day I’m still afraid of thunderstorms.
